Brown, 43, said accusations that he’s responsible for her drug-related demise make him “feel terrible.” He said Houston was doing narcotics "way before" he met her. In fact, she's the one who introduced him to cocaine, he claimed. “I didn’t get high before I met Whitney … on narcotics, no. I smoked weed, I drank beer,” he told Lauer in the pre-taped interview that continues Thursday. “No, I wasn’t the one who got her addicted to drugs. Or, I’m not the reason she’s gone.”
He said he’s been off narcotic for the last seven years and didn’t know she was still “struggling” with her sobriety. At their last meeting a week before her death, Houston was “glowing,” he said. They were out to dinner with their daughter Bobbi Kristina at Crustacean restaurant in Beverly Hills, and Houston “just looked like she was in a good place,” he said.
Ten days later she was dead.
“Maybe I could have done something different, you know, to ensure she had a longer life, but you have to want it, you know?” he told Lauer. “Some things just happen. God probably just needed her for the choir, you know, up there in heaven.”
