A 32-year-old man set himself on fire in front of his estranged wife’s home in a Mumbai suburb Ville Parle after he was beaten up by her relatives.
A driver by profession, the victim got married about a decade back and have a girl and a boy together. However, the couple separated four years back, reports Indian new website NDTV.
The man used to frequently go to his wife’s house to meet his children who were very attached to him.
On the fateful day, when he went to meet his wife on her request, she and her entire family abused him and physically assaulted him in front of curious neighbors. The man could not take the public humiliation. He went back to his car and drained the fuel into a 2 litre bottle, doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze in front of his wife and her family.
The shocked public rushed to contain the fire and took him to a hospital. The victim fought for his life for two days despite severe burns but lost the battle of his life. The police authorities registered a case of suicide. The man’s body was handed over to his family members.
