Bobby Brown will always love Whitney Houston
Breaking his silence in a “Today” show interview that aired Wednesday, the New Edition singer said he still has deep feelings for the tragic diva, even though she divorced him in 2007.
“Our relationship was great,” he told NBC’s Matt Lauer. “I can honestly say that I love that woman with, with everything that I am. And I believe she loved me the same way.” He said the enduring emotional connection is something his new fiancé had to accept.
“I truly, genuinely loved that woman,” he said of Houston. “And I still love her today, um, even though I’m getting married sometime soon. My fiancé knows how I felt about that woman. My kids know how I feel, how I felt about Whitney. It’s no secret, you know? I was in love with her, deeply.”
Brown is set to marry Alicia Etheridge, the mother of his youngest son, next month.
Houston, 48, died unexpectedly in her Beverly Hilton hotel suite Feb. 11, just hours before her mentor Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party. She was found face down in a scalding hot bathtub with cocaine in her system.
The coroner ruled her death an accidental drowning likely caused by a cardiac event brought on by the cocaine use.
